I bloody love Millie Dillmount, portrayed by one of my absolute favourite actresses/idols of ALL TIME; Julie Andrews. I fucking love this woman! She is heavenly, beautiful and massively talented, but the various characters she has played have always been tomboyish, clever, and full of adventure and authority in equal measure (mary poppins - practically perfect, frauline maria - problematic according to that song, but she did pull captain von trapp - score) She seemed to steer away from the clichéd classical heroine, when in fact she was always unquestionably more enchanting than her demure and glamorous female co-stars.
Millie Dillmount's ambition is to find work as a stenographer to a wealthy man and then marry her boss. She intends to earn her own money, and rejects the impracticalities of marrying for love; a true 1920s 'Modern'.
Style: Cropped hair, cute 20s hats, enormous floral accessories, long beads (they don't hang quite as straight as they should: 'if only my fronts weren't so full!')
Attitude: Feisty, determined, and thoroughly modern. 'I'm your equal. I'm going to meet you men on your own terms, cater to your craving for efficiency, learn to talk sports, tell jokes, smoke, drink, and yes, if I have to, I'll even kiss you back!'
